POPLAR CULT! TAKES PLACE IN Piazza di Piedicastello, ONE OF THE MOST HISTORIC SQUARES IN TRENTO
Piedicastello is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Trento, bordered by the right bank of the Adige River and Doss Trento. It is named after its location at the foot of the "Verruca castellum," the city's hill. A symbol of the neighborhood is the Church of Sant'Apollinare, with its Nordic-style sloping roof covered in wooden shingles, built in the 13th century. Another notable feature of the area is the beautiful fountain in the center of the square, used historically to water the livestock of merchants heading to the Strada Gardesana. In the late 19th century, Piedicastello also became an industrial hub, with the construction of the cement factory "Ex-Italcementi," now demolished, and some characteristic rows of workers' houses, commissioned by the enlightened entrepreneur and politician Paolo Oss Mazzurana.
