Talking about rehabilitation and social reintegration means looking forward instead of backward. However, it requires the political will to make this shift in perspective. Daria Bignardi first entered a prison thirty years ago, and her book retraces the encounters she has had over the years with all the parties involved in the prison system. It paints a portrait of the injustices in our legal system, with class issues at the forefront, turning prisons into instruments of social revenge.

Daria Bignardi, born in Ferrara and now living in Milan, has published several novels with Mondadori, including Non vi lascerò orfani (which won the Rapallo Prize, Elsa Morante Prize, and City of Padua Prize), Un karma pesante, L’acustica perfetta, L’amore che ti meriti, Santa degli impossibili, Storia della mia ansia, and Oggi faccio azzurro. She has also published Libri che mi hanno rovinato la vita with Einaudi. All these works have been major successes and translated into many languages.
