To reach the summit of Mount Kimbie, the first step is to close your eyes and fully surrender to the deft hands of Dominic Maker and Kai Campos, the two minds behind this visionary and ever-shifting non-place. Each journey with them is unique, inscrutable, and absurdly unparalleled. From their roots in the English post-dubstep scene—a scene that owes much of its existence to them—the band has navigated impossible trajectories, blending post-punk, art pop, and electronic music as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Their latest twist is their new album, The Sunset Violent, where the duo expands to a quartet for a lo-fi indie rock experience that’s pure delight (and features a couple of tracks with none other than King Krule). On Friday, September 13, expect nothing but the unexpected from them at Poplar. Who knows, the Doss might even transform into a magical mountain for the night.
